Dr. Emily Wilcox
I have been a staff specialist in anaesthesia for two years, and continue to enjoy the ongoing challenges!
Originally from Nottingham in the United Kingdom, I completed my medical degree and BMed Sci at the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the North East of England. I came to Australia after my house jobs, originally for a year. However, I loved the work and the lifestyle, and decided to stay! I completed my anaesthesia training at Westmead Hospital. My Provisional Fellowship year included a strong focus on teaching and leadership, and I have continued these interests as a consultant. I am now a Supervisor of Training on the Westmead anaesthesia training scheme, and am the New Fellow on the NSW Regional Committee with a core involvement in the implementation of the new anaesthesia curriculum scheduled for 2013. I have gained immense satisfaction from involvement in college and training work. As a consultant in anaesthesia I try to balance life sensibly! I love hiking and camping, and regularly enjoy the bay run and its cafes. I play the violin and have recently taken up piano lessons, having previously studied since age four. Fortunately for my neighbours, I have an electric piano with headphones. Throughout my training I felt incredibly well supported at Westmead, and am honoured to continue to facilitate the successful training of our registrars.
