Professor David Harris

Professor David Harris MD, BS, FRACP


David Harris practices as a nephrologist at Westmead Hospital, with particular

interests in dialysis, chronic kidney disease, general nephrology and fluid and

electrolyte imbalance.


He looks after a large number of dialysis and transplant patients.  He runs a

dialysis clinic on Monday mornings at the Regional Dialysis Centre in Blacktown

Hospital, and private rooms on Friday mornings in Kempsey Street, Blacktown.


Until mid 2013 he is Chair of Westmead Hospital Medical Staff Council, and

Co-chair of Westmead Clinical Council.  He is passionate about the continued

mprovement in services and infrastructure at Westmead, to improve the health

care of patients in western Sydney.


He has an active clinical and laboratory research program, the latter centred

around novel therapeutic approaches for chronic kidney disease.  For a couple

of decades he has been interested in global nephrology, currently occupies several

executive positions in the International Society of Nephrology and will be

President of the Asian Pacific Society from 2013.


In his spare time he still enjoys running through the beautiful bushland of the

northern beaches and Ku-ring-gai Chase and protecting the natural beauty in

his corner of Sydney.
