Dr Sanjay Swaminathan BMedSci (Hon) MBBS (Hon) Ph.D. FRACP FRCPA
Sanjay Swaminathan is a Monash University graduate who completed basic physician training at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne in 2003. He commenced advanced training in Clinical Immunology and Allergy in 2004 in Sydney at Royal Prince Alfred and Concord Hospitals. He moved to Adelaide in 2006 and worked at Flinders Medical Centre to further his training in Immunopathology. From 2007-2011, Sanjay completed a Ph.D. at St Vincent’s Centre for Applied Medical Research in Sydney under the guidance of Professor Tony Kelleher, investigating the role of microRNAs in HIV-1 pathogenesis. From 2011-2013, Sanjay was a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research in Frederick, Maryland, USA where he continued research into the interaction between microRNAs, innate immunity and HIV-1 infection.
Sanjay is now a full time staff specialist working at both Westmead and Blacktown Hospitals and part of his role is to establish new clinical services at Blacktown Hospital. Apart from his basic science fascination with microRNAs, he has strong clinical interests in patients with autoimmunity, vasculitis, allergy, inflammatory eye disorders and immunodeficiencies.
