Dr Andrew White BMedSci(hons) MBBS PhD FRANZCO
Consultant Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma Specialist
I have been associated with Westmead Hospital since 2003 when I started as an intern and worked there every year through my residency and ophthalmology training. In 2010 I left to undertake an ophthalmology fellowship at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, UK. I remained there as a consultant ophthalmologist and Lecturer at the University of Cambridge. I have recently taken up a conjoint position as Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney and Westmead Hospital. My subspecialty interest is glaucoma. We still have much to learn about glaucoma and treatments are evolving all the time. I conduct some research into developing and testing these new treatments in addition to seeing patients at the hospital.
I hold a PhD from the University of Sydney and have additional postgraduate and postdoctoral research experience at the Max Plank Institute for Biophysical Chemistry, Gottingen, Germany, the State University of New York (SUNY), USA and the Centre for Brain Repair, University of Cambridge. I am actively involved in the training of medical students, registrars and fellows. I am also a reviewer for the Journal of Glaucoma and Translational Vision Science and Technology
I run a weekly glaucoma clinic at Westmead Hospital offering a full range of medical and surgical treatments. I also perform cataract surgery at the hospital weekly.
